What To Do Should Your Furnace Fail To Start

Follow these steps if your furnace fails to start:

1. CHECK YOUR THERMOSTAT

Is it set below the present house temperature in the house? If so, raise the setting above present house temperature.

2. CHECK THE FURNACE POWER SWITCH

Is it in “on” position.

3. CHECK YOUR ELECTICAL PANEL

Look for a blown fuse, or a tripped breaker. If a fuse is blown, replace with fuse with correct amperage. If a breaker is tripped then reset the breaker.

4. CHECK THE RESET BUTTON ON THE RELAY BOX

Press it only ONCE… (maybe located on the furnace or on the chimney pipe or on the oil burner.)

5. CHECK OIL BURNER MOTOR

If you hear a “hum” and burner has not started, press the overload button on the motor.

6. CHECK THE OIL TANK GAUGE

To ensure your tank is not empty.
